If you’re considering having a website designed, here are some things to consider:
Expectations
We always make sure our clients have the proper expectations for their website. One of the most unrealistic expectations first time website owners have is that at launch, their site will be listed on Google’s first page. It takes some time for your own company name to appear – it isn’t immediate.
Another huge expectation is that by having a website business instantly pick up. Just having a website is not web marketing – you still need to promote your site to attract visitors.
Responsibilities
We can’t do everything for your website – although we’ll certainly try to make the process is as easy as possible for our clients. Depending on the project scope, clients may need to provide the website outline, content, images and other materials. There is always an emphasis on getting these materials together sooner rather than later as 98% of the projects that take longer than expected are direct results of clients not being able to efficiently collect materials.
Timelines
We like to make sure that every client knows what we’re doing for their website and when to expect with deliverables. We feel it’s important, especially for first timers, to have a good understanding of the whole process and how long things can take. We always like to establish a base timeline for first design comp, building HTML templates and when the content management system setup.
Effective Communication
Communication goes both ways. Often we request materials from a client and do not receive a response for several weeks. It really helps the web designer to coordinate multiple projects when there is at least an estimated time to receive materials. We are obsessive about working as efficiently as possible and responding to client requests ideally within minutes of receiving them. Having the necessary materials on hand allows us to better serve our clients.
During the web design and development process, please inform us of any questions or concerns as soon as possible. If your design concept is missing a key element, let us know. Reserving concerns could delay the launch of your site.
Our goal here at McKinley Media Group is to make sure you are absolutely happy with your site. We’re more than happy to make things perfect for you!
